Aims and Scope

Perinatal Programming addresses the priming of fundamental life functions which are set during critical periods already in the womb and in early infancy. It provides a new view on the origins of health and disease. To realize these associations may enable us to primarily prevent diseases for the long term.

International research activities in this field are increasing rapidly. Already three decades ago, the concept of Perinatal Programming has been framed at the Charité, Berlin.

In the year 2010, the 35th anniversary of the inauguration of the concept of Perinatal Programming, and, moreover, the 300th anniversary of the foundation of the Charité as well as the 200th anniversary of the Humboldt University Berlin will be celebrated.

On these occasions, we would like to bring together leading international experts to present their findings, hypotheses, and ideas in the field.

State-of-the-Art lectures will be complemented by integrative pro-and-con discussions to set the current knowledge and advise scientific and practical routes for the future.
